From its blues and ragtime roots in New Orleans to the swinging sounds of the 60s, jazz has evolved into a variety of different sub genres over the past century. Now, audiences can explore this musical evolution at ‘We call it Jazz’ in Baltimore, a musical journey guided by a brilliant jazz band. Iconic NOLA hits like “When The Saints Go Marching In” and “Ain’t Misbehavin” as well as songs influenced by the genre will be performed on the night, and they’ll be sure to keep some room for some classic jazz improvisations too.

What is ‘We call it Jazz’?
Every jazz lover has their favorite style of jazz, and at this show, a host of these styles are celebrated in all their groovy glory. Illuminated by a NOLA-inspired street lamp, a jazz band takes on the genre’s ragtime roots, famous songs like “Summertime” and “Fly Me To The Moon” as well as some spontaneous improvisations. And while the jazz is going down, you’re more than welcome to sip on a drink inside the reimagination of a street-style bar.
Jazz, its story and the show
New Orleans is regarded as the birthplace of jazz, specifically in areas like the historic French Quarter. The genre was formed from a blending of musical traditions from Europe, Africa and the Caribbean, finally emerging through the African-American community inside NOLA’s buzzing jazz bars.
At ‘We call it Jazz’ in Baltimore, audiences are transported to the funky jazz spots that have breathed life into New Orleans’ streets for over 100 years. Under ambient lighting, saxophones, trumpets, a piano and more accompany the soulful vocals of jazz singers as they sing and snap their fingers to songs like “Fly Me To The Moon” and “Night And Day”. And to top it all off, in between the performances, the band will play off the cuff with songs by the likes of Chet Baker and Miles Davis to guide them.
Experience an evening dedicated to all things jazz at ‘We call it Jazz’ in Baltimore. The setlist incorporates a mixture of tunes that capture the essence of the genre, transporting attendees to the heart of NOLA’s world-renowned jazz scene. There’ll be two shows on the night and each one takes place over the course of 60 minutes, with the first starting at 6:30pm and the later at 9pm.
